| The goals of software measurement |
| |
Software measurement helps to improve the understanding of a software. It provides the necessary information for the assessment and management of a software project. As the assessment plays an extremely important role in the software development process the goals of software measurement are formulated as follows:
- Assessment: as evaluation of a given situation in a special environment
- comprehension of the used methods
- recognition of the characteristics of the development components
- identification of development problems
- Indication: as determination of certain factors or indicators for special characteristics
- performance evaluation
- lines of code analysis
- reviews and milestones
- CMM level 5: as model for the integration of software measurement in the process improvement
- measurement-based method comparison
- controlled software development
- optimization of software production
