Application domain: evaluation end exploration of software measurement data Description: QEV is not a "real" measurement program. Rather it allows to visualize and explore measurement data for object oriented software development projects. QEV combines 24 basic measures into a hierarchical quality model shown in the following figure.

To combine the basic measures, each of them is transformed into a relative value ranging from -1 to +1. The weightings are initial values and may be changed to reflect specific needs. It is, however, not possible to add or remove measures. After the measurement values are entered (QEV is able to store and retrieve them) QEV allows to explore the measurement data step by step using screens similar to the one shown below.

The left side shows the values for all quality factors or measures contributing to the quality criteria under investigation (Class Structure Complexity). The right side shows a pie chart on a colored background circle. The backround circle depicts the color scale used to represent a measured or calculated value ranging from blue (best value possible) to red (terrible).

Each sector of the pie chart stands for one of the measurement values. The size of the respective sector shows the weighting of a specific value for the overall assessment of the quality criteria.
